The U.S.M.C. Patrolling Subic Bay 1907 to 1911

Early last century, during the Spanish-American War which extended into the Philippine-American War the U.S.M.C had 2 regiments in the Philippines. At one time it was even a Brigade Command. They were spread out to Cavite, Olongapo and fought in Samar, China etc. At that time the Philippine -American War was called The Philippine Insurrection.

To secure the Naval Station Olongapo and to stay fit and combat ready the Marines patrolled often in the Subic Area and Rain Forest.

By the description we can identify this location; the patrol is crossing the mouth of the Matain River. That is the end of the present Baloy Long Beach. By the description we can identify this location; this swimming event is at the mouth of the Kalaklan River. We have established that the Star Point, then is now the Kalaklan Point. By the description we can identify this location; this swimming event is at the mouth of the Kalaklan River. We have established that the Star Point, then is now the Kalaklan Point. This could be water coming from the Binictican River or the present Gorgon Heights Valley. We know that Olongapo and the Olongapo Naval Station got water from those two places.
