The U.S. Marines installed Coastal Defense Artillery in Subic Bay before the Army arrived and established the Coastal Defense Fort Wint on Grande Island. The Marines done it with their Blood and Sweat, not with Government contracts, like the Army Coastal Defense Force. This is not a comprehensive study of the subject. It is only, telling a story of a picture and pictures (other stories to follow). For example, I heard from the Coastal Defense Study Group (cdsg.org) that the Marines had a large caliber gun near where the Army 10 Inch Battery Warwick stands now on Grande Island.

The view is across the mouth of the Kalaklan River, near Kalaklan Point. At the bottom of the picture we see heavy timber laid down as tracks to slide, winch-up heavy objects up the Kalaklan Ridge. Ze747. The heavy lumber tracks up Kalaklan Ridge; I speculate that the Marines, perhaps with the help of Navy riggers winched the gun parts up the Kalaklan Ridge. The last picture zoomed in and marked up: 1= The Coaling Station and it looks that it is covered. 2= Drydock Dewey. 3= the causeway that is the present Manila Ave. and Rizal Ave. in present Olongapo City. 4= the all important unique looking Olongapo Naval Station Admin Building. Ze756. The USMC guns were not the first artillery on Kalaklan Point. This gun was emplaced by the Filipino Resistance, Independence Fighters in 1899 on Kalaklan Ridge. It fired on US Navy Ships. The gun still exists and is located in San Francisco.
