US Military Boundary Markers on Luzon

Zf689. The above images of the old but refurbished Death March Marker # 112 is the last one before one reaches the present Capas Memorial Shrine, dedicated to unimaginable suffering of the US and American Soldiers in the Japanese POW Camp O’Donnell. It is reported that approximately 30,000 Soldiers died here while in the hands of the Imperial Japanese Forces.
At this memorial marker is this boundary marker, the 2nd image. I find it incredible that this memorabilia from the US Military Colonial presence is still around.

I recently visited the Bamban Museum of History and WWII Relics. It is run by Mr. Rhonie C. Dela Cruz as a private enterprise without any income and it depends on donations. The visit reminded me about the 100+ year old US Military Boundary Markers, I have written about and Rhonie and his associates have found one near the former Clark Military Complex. This page is dedicated to those historical markers and many links on this subject and matters are added at the end of this presentation.

This presentation is interesting because it also shows Dead March Marker 112, a Marker from the Philippine Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. It also compares how a venue looked like in the 1980 and how it looks now. If you don’t look at all the links, offered here at the end, at least you should look and both of the 2 pages of this URL called: “Who knows a little Spanish”? Click Here!

Zf690. 2013-12-17 on this date we found the US Military Reservation Boundary marker all cleaned up and repainted and now we can clearly read what it says. In the past this marker was almost in an unreadable state.

Zf691. 2008-01-17 The Death March Marker #112 shown in the previous image has been renewed by this date with a solid foundation and a Sponsor is honoring the Bataan Defenders.

Zf693. 2008-01-17 The Philippine Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor placed a Memorial Marker here at the former Boundary of the Camp O-Donnell Military Reservation. And the Death March Marker #112 is also here.

Zf694. 1986 to 88 time frame, I’m so glad that Chad Hill is sharing this image with us. What a change, wow!!! In 1991 Mt. Pinatubo happened, that is also about the time the US Navy gave up this area it used as a Radio Transmitting Facility and this very place was the very infamous Camp O’Donnell, the American Prisoner of War side.

Zf695. An about 1988 VERY UNIQUE IMAGE of the Camp O-Donnell Boundary shot by Navy man Chad Hill who was on active duty then.

Zf700. This is the other, the 2nd one, of the old US Military Boundary Markers. It was found by the search and recovery team from the Bamban Historical Society (BHS) Bamban Museum of History. I say 2nd because as we point out in this presentation, the 1st one is next to the Death March Marker #112. This last Death March Marker of the infamous Death March Route and is located very near the present entrance to the Capas National Shrine.

Zf701. This is a close-up image of the last picture # Zf700. The engraved writing is still in perfect shape after perhaps 100 years when it was placed here.

On 9 April 2003, a 73-metre (240 ft) obelisk symbolizing peace[4] and new memorial wall were unveiled on the grounds of the former internment camp. The obelisk is surrounded by a three-segmented, black marble wall engraved with the names of more than 30,000 Filipinos who were incarcerated in the camp. There are also statistics about the total numbers of prisoners and deaths, together with poems for peace.
