Puu-O-Hulu became a Military Reservation in 1923, it is separate rock ridge line on the Waianae Coast of Oahu. It was used for artillery triangulation for several artillery batteries from Fort Kamehameha to up the Waianae Coast. On top, five fire control (FC) observation posts were built and they were served with a wire hoisting system and several utility buildings, berthing eating etc. During WWII an Artillery battery was located on the west ocean side, but this album is about the FC Stations on top of the ridge. In 1948 the U.S. Army abandoned this kind of coastal defense and this site became a popular hiking trail. An outstanding web-page exist about the Puu-O-Hulu Military Reservation, click here:

Here are some of the batteries the FC stations on top of Puu-O-Hulu served: Battery Wiliston-two 16 inch guns at Ft Weaver, Pearl Harbor entrance, west side; Battery Closson-two 12 Inch guns at Fort Kamehameha, east side of Pearl Harbor entrance; at the Salt Lake area an 8 Inch Battery, near the Aliamanu Crater; Battery Hatch-two 16 Inch guns at Fort Barrette in Kapolei; Battery Arizona-one of the three gun turrets from the USS Arizona at Kahe Point with 14 Inch guns and several other smaller stationary batteries, other 155 mm gun batteries and several railway batteries on the leeward coast of Oahu.

In Photobucket, I established an album with 86 images. If you are going to watch this on Photobucket, they are drowning you with advertisements. Try to click slideshow right away and even expand the screen. Then another option might be to click stop and look at the pictures one by one. The bad thing about the new Photobucket is they don’t show my image descriptions anymore. This is the URL, click here!
