On Saturday, December 15th, the bells of San Lorenzo de Martir will finally be returned to the Church of Saint Lawrence the Martyr in Balangiga, Samar.
Many have asked for details such they might attend. The event will take place in Balangiga, Samar on Saturday the 15th. If you plan to attend, I would recommend departing Manila for Tacloban on Friday the 14th as flight schedules and the two hour drive from the airport to the town of Balangiga might be difficult to make happen on the 15th.
I was asked to pass on the attached tweet from Elmer Cato and the following DFA message: Please make sure the veterans in the Philippines know that Foreign Secretary Locsin personally invited them to Balangiga.
It is refreshing to note the recognition and appreciation for the support of our Veteran Community, and especially our two Angeles City Posts, VFW Post 2485 and American Legion Post 123, who led by example, submitted and approved Resolutions endorsing the return of the bells. These Resolutions were subsequently forwarded and approved by the District and Departments of the Pacific and ultimately endorsed and approved by VFW and AL National Headquarters. These Resolutions helped manifest and demonstrate veteran support – – leading the way and doing the right thing.
It truly was a great team effort by a lot of good people from our Veteran Community to the US – Philippine Society and its Board of Directors to the early work of the BRG and later the Tres Marineros and others who endeavored to make it a reality. Well Done and Bravo Zulu!
