The founders of the U-Haul Company have Navy Roots. The U-Haul Company is carrying all or most of the cost in restoring the Ford Island Control Tower. I understand it is all coordinated by the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum.

The Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum sent out an email on the 2nd Sep. 2020 with a link for a video at YouTube and with this text:

View the Pearl Harbor Attack from Iconic Ford Island Control Tower
Historic treasure now has elevator, restoration nearly complete with U-Haul gift

The view from the top of the iconic Ford Island Control Tower has never before been by the public, but it will soon be a possibility for all guests of Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum thanks to a generous donation from U-Haul and U-Haul CEO Joe Schoen and family.

The 360-degree sweeping scene from the tower encompasses all the major historical points of interest from the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, including the USS Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri, as well as the hangars and runways on Ford Island, and the moorings that made up Battleship Row.

While the grand opening and launch of tours of the tower have been postponed until later in the year, you can watch the restoration process and learn more about the tower’s history and U-Haul’s ties to WWII here, click here: U-Haul Restoration of Ford Island Control Tower
