Mt. Samat Visit in the Rain 22 July 2025
I DECIDED TO SEND THIS AGAIN WITH MORE MEAT!
The Corregidor.org webmaster was here from Australia. We had “Orange Rain Warning” for several days now in Zambales, Bataan etc but because of time, now or never, we went anyway. The Bataan highway was flooded at places but was passable.
Stopped at the Bataan Tourist Center in Balanga along the highway but it was closed because of the weather.
The Mt. Samat Shrine was open! The staff remembered me from my frequent visits and received us with open arms. However the Museum was closed, they didn’t let us walk to the Cross or the Colonnade. But to me it is always rewarding and joyful to visit this historical place.
I took my friend and visitor to the irrigation dam at the confluence of the Talisay and Catmon Rivers. This was the Observation Post Line in the Battle of Bataan.
We were told “ONE IMPORTANT NEWS ITEM” that the elevator in the cross was being overhauled or upgraded. That a 2 year contract was awarded and the work is in process now.

#C1. The Talisay River is spilling over an irrigation ditch dam, just north and below Mt. Samat. This was the Out Post Line of Defense in the Battle of Bataan.

C2. Is a section of a 1:50000 map of the Mt. Samat area. I took my friend and visitor to the irrigation dam at the confluence of the Talisay and Catmon Rivers. This was the Observation Post Line in the Battle of Bataan.

#C5. Picture is a 2008 picture of the Mt Samat Shrine Plaque HONORING President Marcos; he also initiated other WWII remembrance sites, such as opening Corregidor as a National supported tourist site.

#C6. Picture is a 2008 picture of the Mt Samat Shrine Plaque HONORING President Ramos for rehabilitating the Mt. Samat Shrine in 1998.
It was rehabilitated again in 2024/25 by President Marcos Jr. and in Dec.2024 the cross. The museum and the colonnade were not assessable because of it. I’m sure it was done for the 2025 Bataan Day Commemoration.
That is why I came again, this day, the 22nd July 2025. Well we picked a bad day, a heavy rain day. But it is one more reason to come again.

#C7. This is a 2008 picture, we made up to the Mt. Samat Cross Arms. We three are former US Navy Sailors with our wives and friends. We all had served in the Diving/Salvage Navy and were shipmates on various commands.
