Ze778. The Marine Guard, U.S.M.C., for the USMC 4.7 Inch Battery on top of Hell Hill at Macmany Point, across the channel from Grande Island in Subic Bay 1909. It looks like a pier was built to the valley next to Hell Hill and they probable built a small camp there. This picture came from the Earl Hancock “Pete” Ellis Picture Collection in the U.S.M.C. Archives.
Read MoreZe776. This picture is from the 30th Dec. 2008 from our walk up to Sta Rita Mountain and tower. The picture is approximately the same area as the last picture. The gun is long gun, I’m sure before the Navy departed in Nov. 1992.
As to when it was removed and why and where exactly did the gun come from or where it went to, I have no idea. I asked but have been unsuccessful to find out the exact history of the 3 Inch gun on Sta Rita Mountain.

USMC Officer Ellis reports that the C.A.C. is exploding a mine in the channel to Subic Bay between Grande Island and the Redondo Peninsular. C.A.C. stands foe US Army Coast Artillery Corps, so they were on the island already and are starting up, building the new US Army Fort Wint on Grande Island.
