Zg463. (-00). This was the Enlisted Men Boat Landing where I first stepped on land in the Philippines in 1962, as a 20 year old and BM3. After the first day I said to myself, I like this place.
Zg469. (-20). Looking back across the ‘Drainage Canal’, notice the covered walkway. The condition of the river water has improved a little. For three years now the former Main Gate Bridge is under construction to be replaced. This note was written in Sep. 2023!
Zg468. (-19). Across the bridge and looking up Magsaysay Dr. Left are those ex ‘Super Clubs’ which only seen me once in my 30 year career. Right was ‘Lot 21’ but now is a neat Mall and now in 20023 it is the SM Mall “Olongapo City Down Town”.
Zg467. (-17). Reached Rizal Hwy, the gate is in sight. It is closed right now for vehicles- Easter activities outside the gate? Wimpy’s was there during our time! Sep. 2023 note: this is now a construction site to replace the Main Gate Bridge, which is now called Magsaysay Bridge.
Zg465. (-03). Waterfront Road, by my boat landing and in front of HQ Building # 229. In 1962 we were always anchored out! The new Hellships Memorial is just dead ahead, maybe 100 feet.
