The Hell Ship Montevideo Maru Plaque Unveiling Ceremony, Bob Couttie

This is Bob Couttie, a Brit and a long time resident here in Subic Bay. He recited the Ode.

The Hell Ship Montevideo Maru Plaque Unveiling Ceremony was conducted on the 1st July 2009 at the Hell Ships Memorial in Subic Bay. That was the anniversary of the sinking on the 1st July 1942.

This ship was sunk by an US Submarine on 1st July 1942 with very few survivors. It had over 1000 Australian POWs and Internees of the Imperial Japanese Forces on board. They came from Rabaul, new Britain and the ship was sunk somewhere near the North Luzon coast. You can find a lot more information on the net
