Tracey Betts, a representative from the United States Embassy in Manila, lays a wreath at the wreck site of the MV Oryoku Maru during a remembrance ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 15, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the hellship. Oryoku Maru, carrying nearly 300 American prisoners of war, was accidentally sunk by American fighter planes on Subic Bay, Philippines on December 15, 1944.

Ze776. This picture is from the 30th Dec. 2008 from our walk up to Sta Rita Mountain and tower. The picture is approximately the same area as the last picture. The gun is long gun, I’m sure before the Navy departed in Nov. 1992.

As to when it was removed and why and where exactly did the gun come from or where it went to, I have no idea. I asked but have been unsuccessful to find out the exact history of the 3 Inch gun on Sta Rita Mountain.

Ze551. We are now approaching the Jadjad Bridge from the other side and are driving in the direction towards SBFZ along the Subic-Tipo Expressway. Work is going on for the 2nd bridge over the Jadjad River. Here the road widening will be easier; the north side of the road is flat.
