Ze626. The USS Ward DD-139 plaque at the corner of Building 17 at Bishop Point, Pearl Harbor. If I was the CO or Senior Chief Petty Officer of this command, I would see to it, that the stain on the plaque gets cleaned up.

Ze628. The plaque and stand are commemorating the USS Ward firing the First Shot and causing the first casualties in the WWII Pacific War. It is located at this corner of Building 17 at bishop Point.

Ze627. This is building 17, now the Head Quarter of MDSU-1, as I said, I was stationed here in this unit between 1981 and 1983.

Ze594. This is a view of the Keehe Lagoon Beach Park from the elevated H1 Highway. The DAV Park is part of it and is left or east of it.

Ze583. In Viet Nam every little compound or barracks had a little Bar like this one in the Fort Derussy Army Museum. Most people enjoyed a beer or too, it was not political uncorrect at that time. The COMRATS even had small cigarette packs with about 3 or 4 cigarette sticks.

They remind me of our service in Viet Nam and that we looked forward to some R & R.; which included enjoying some entertainment shows with some well-known entertainment personalities.

My first daughter was a Hula Dancer in these shows for several years, she kept her figure and could still do it today.

Ze578. The Army Museum at the Fort Derussy Beach Park has a corner of Rest & Recreation visits (R & R) of Viet Nam War service members coming here for R&R. Here are pictures of those R & R visits, I believe they were the shorter 7 day breaks; one could take advantage of during your normal year of service to the Viet Nam War. I never did that. For these short 7 day visit one could choose locations in the West Pacific area only and that included Hawaii, so you could meet your loved ones here in Hawaii.
