Dale Lueck Visit to Subic
On the 11th of Dec. 2022 I had a visitor from the Good Old USA with his family, a Navy Deep Sea Diver who started as a fireman and retired as a Commander. I showed him the huge Lahar Field about 25 Km north of here in San Marcelino. Then we toured the former US Naval Base Subic Bay. These pictures are from his Daughter in law, whose husband, also a retired military man, was also with us. We never served together but he wrote this about his career:
First time I visited Subic was in 1970, as a SFFN on USS Bradley (DE1041), last time was 1992, on USS Beaufort. Was XO on Beaufort in 1991-1992. We were in and out of Subic quite a bit during that period, we towed one of the big floating dry-docks up to Yokosuka. When I left Beaufort 1992, I went to SRF Sasebo as AOIC and managed the Emergency Ships Salvage Depot there. Then back to the states to NAVSEASYSCOM as Supervisor of Diving. Finished a tour as SUPDIVE in 1997 and retired after 28 years. 26 of those years were in diving, started as a 2nd class diver went on to saturation and served as a salvage operations officer.
It was a nice day and we shared many Navy stories, We met at a great restaurant, the Sit n Bull in Barrio Barretto and finished the day in “Vascos” the best Maritime Theme Restaurant in the Philippines
