He died on the Hellship Enoura Maru!

The Army Lt. Chester K. Britt Research Team wrote to me that Chester Britt noted in his diary that Lt. Bell died Jan 3, 1945 while the Enoura Maru was tied up in Takao harbor. The team also sent these pictures and I like to share them.

Like so many, another man fallen and the family in grief, millions, and millions and on both sides, WWII, in service to their country. I ad his name and family here, maybe they will be remembered longer.

Army Lt. Chester K. Britt Research Team member John Duresky wrote this to the Lt. Bell family and me:

I am going through all my old emails looking and I just came on this one.   I had forgotten about this email and clipping from you from Feb 2022.     Col Romulo is a real hero in the Philippines.   I’m copying a friend in the Philippines, Karl-Wilhelm Welteke who just started a blog about Col Romulo   About a month ago I read the book Col Romulo wrote after he made it to the US and became very interested in him myself.   ROMULO, Col Carlos P., “I Saw the Fall of Philippines,” 1942, Doubleday

Col Romulo really was the last man out of Bataan.  He was flown in a dangerous flight, made it to Mindanao, and was then taken by B-17 to Australia.   He had to have seen your grandfather while he was on Mindanao.

Karl, Chester Britt noted in his diary that Lt Bell died Jan 3, 1945 while the Enoura Maru was tied up in Takao harbor.   Attached is a photo of Lt Bell’s daughter Ann, and his granddaughter Blythe and an article about him, the photo of Blythe’s mother Ann as a little girl in October, 1941 in California before he left for the Philippines.   Then a photo of him probably around Del Monte field on Mindanao.
